The Hockey Stick is a fundamental figure in Latin social dance, widely utilized in both Cha-Cha and Rumba [1, 2]. It is typically initiated from a Fan Position, where the leader guides the follower through a distinct, curved path that resembles the shape of a hockey stick [3, 5]. In the Cha-Cha, the figure incorporates a lock action to accommodate the five-step structure of the rhythm, distinguishing it from the slower three-step Rumba version [3]. During the execution, the leader remains relatively stationary, often performing cucaracha movements, while the follower travels progressively from the leader's left side, moving past them towards the right, before turning to face the leader directly [3, 5]. This figure is classified as a bronze-level movement, serving as a cornerstone for developing essential skills in armwork, hip action, and body alignment [2, 4]. The movement concludes in various configurations, such as Open Position, Open Counter Promenade Position, or Left Side Position, allowing for seamless transitions into subsequent figures like the Alemana or Open Hip Twist [4, 6].
