El Pozo es una llamada de rueda de casino más que un estilo de baile independiente; pertenece al vocabulario compartido de las parejas que se mueven en círculo bajo la dirección de un cantante.[1] En la forma comúnmente descrita, la pareja mantiene una posición cerrada compacta mientras el líder redirige a la seguidora primero hacia el lado derecho del líder y luego de vuelta hacia su izquierda, deteniéndose con la pareja orientada aproximadamente paralela a la línea central del círculo.[2] Otra descripción documentada le da a la figura un acento de centro-y-afuera: los bailadores se inclinan hacia el centro de la rueda en el tiempo 1 con un toque del pie derecho, y luego se inclinan alejándose del centro en el tiempo 5 con un toque del pie izquierdo.[3] Su ritmo, por lo tanto, encaja en la frase de dos compases del casino/rueda, con una ruptura o acento en cada compás en lugar de rupturas repetidas dentro de un solo compás. Dado que las figuras de rueda se ejecutan al unísono por múltiples parejas que responden a una llamada nombrada, la identidad de El Pozo está ligada menos al estilo individual que al tiempo colectivo, la separación entre parejas y la preservación de la formación circular.[1]
