Patin es una llamada de la rueda de casino y no una figura básica común a toda la salsa: pertenece al vocabulario dirigido por un llamador, en el que todas las parejas ejecutan acciones nombradas al mismo tiempo dentro del círculo.[1] Los índices instructivos disponibles identifican a Patin como un movimiento específico de la rueda y señalan que puede aparecer dentro de llamadas compuestas como Enchufla Patin.[2] Desde el punto de vista mecánico, la figura se entiende mejor como una entrada de la familia de la enchufla seguida de un breve acento de patinaje o deslizamiento: el líder abre el camino de giro a la izquierda de la seguidora, la seguidora rota a través de ese camino por etapas, y la pareja mantiene la acción lo bastante compacta para preservar el espaciado del círculo. El conteo normalmente conserva la estructura de dos compases de salsa propia del casino, con un quiebre en cada compás, bailando en 1-2-3, 5-6-7 en lugar de en el 4 o el 8. La rueda de casino tiene sus raíces históricas en el casino cubano y está asociada con el desarrollo del baile social habanero a finales de los años 50, para luego difundirse a través de la migración cubana y de las comunidades internacionales de rueda.[3] Por ello, el nombre Patin se documenta con mayor solidez en contextos cubanos y de rueda; las escenas de salsa lineal (slot) pueden conocer esta llamada en español a través de clases de rueda, pero por lo general no la mantienen como un nombre de figura independiente dentro del On2 de Nueva York o el On1 de Los Ángeles.

On 5-6-7, guide the follower through a staged left turn while marking the patin accent with compact, gliding footwork; keep the couple close to its rueda lane and finish ready for the caller's next resolution or partner change.

From open guapea hold, break back on the right on 1, replace on 2, and take the offered enchufla pathway on 3 without rushing forward on the break. On 5-6-7, rotate left/counter-clockwise in stages through the opened pathway, matching the compact patin accent and finishing balanced, oriented to the leader or to the next called transition.
