Pelota es una figura de la rueda de casino cuyo nombre proviene de la palabra española «pelota», y cuya imaginería se asocia comúnmente con el béisbol y con un aplauso que evoca el gesto de atrapar o golpear una pelota.[1] En la figura base, la pareja parte de la posición de agarre abierto de la rueda, utiliza una acción de enchufla como mecanismo de desplazamiento y luego marca la frase con un aplauso coordinado antes de que continúe el flujo de la rueda.[2] Desde el punto de vista mecánico, el líder inicia la enchufla redirigiendo a la seguidora hacia un giro a la izquierda, en sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj: la seguidora primero rompe hacia atrás sobre el pie derecho y luego rota por etapas a medida que la pareja cambia de orientación, en lugar de ser impulsada en una sola acción final. Pelota pertenece al vocabulario de llamadas para múltiples parejas de la rueda de casino, un formato circular de casino asociado con La Habana a mediados de la década de 1950, que se ejecuta bajo la dirección de un llamador que nombra las figuras para todas las parejas a la vez.[3] Su difusión práctica sigue la circulación más amplia de la rueda desde Cuba hacia Miami y, después, hacia otras comunidades de salsa, mientras que el nombre en sí sigue siendo principalmente una llamada de rueda en español y no el nombre de una figura de salsa lineal.[4] Extensiones comunes como Pelota Uno, Pelota Dos, Pelota Tres y Festival de Pelota conservan la idea del aplauso asociado al béisbol, aunque varían el número o la ubicación de los acentos.[5]

On 5-6-7, complete the exchange or re-facing action required by the local rueda version and mark the pelota accent with the called clap, landing ready for the next rueda command on 7.

On 1-2-3, break back on the right on 1, respond to the raised connection, and enter the enchufla as a left, counter-clockwise turn rather than stepping forward on count 1. On 5-6-7, finish the staged reorientation to face the next leader or original leader as the local rueda pattern requires, join or answer the clap accent, and settle ready for the next command on 7.

- Breaking forward on count 1 instead of both partners breaking away from their own center on opposite feet.
- Treating the enchufla as a single snapped turn instead of a staged left, counter-clockwise reorientation across the phrase.
- Clapping through the hand connection or pulling the follower into the accent instead of releasing or softening the frame as needed.
- Missing the count-7 readiness point, which delays the next called rueda figure.
- Calling Pelota Uno, Dos, or Tres when the group only knows the base Pelota accent structure.
