El cambio de mano detrás de la espalda es un recurso compacto de trabajo de pareja en salsa en el que el líder transfiere la mano conectada detrás de su propia espalda hacia la otra mano mientras la pareja mantiene el ritmo básico y la relación de frente. La salsa suele usar un marco de ocho tiempos con tres cambios de peso por compás, dejando el cuarto y el octavo tiempo sin pisar o marcados ligeramente.[1] En una versión On1, el líder y la seguidora hacen cada uno un break una vez por compás, luego reemplazan y cierran el peso antes de la segunda mitad de la frase. La figura normalmente no le pide a la seguidora que gire; la acción visual es la trayectoria del brazo del líder y la transferencia de mano, mantenidas lo bastante bajas y cerca del cuerpo para que el brazo de la seguidora no sea tirado detrás de su hombro. Pertenece de manera más natural a la salsa social lineal de Nueva York y Los Ángeles, donde los patrones lineales de manos son centrales y las parejas permanecen dentro de una pista o punto limitado en el piso.[2] Las escenas cubanas de casino y rueda pueden reconocer cambios de mano comparables detrás de la espalda, pero su denominación suele estar integrada en el vocabulario local de llamadas más que tratarse como esta etiqueta de estudio en inglés.[3]

Líder
On1 from a single open hand connection, the leader breaks back on left on 1, replaces on right on 2 while drawing the joined hand low toward the left hip, and closes on 3 while passing the follower's hand behind his own back into the other hand. On 5 the leader breaks back on right, replaces on left on 6, and closes on 7 with the new handhold presented in front. Rotation is minimal: the leader may open the torso about 1/8 turn to clear the arm path, then return to square facing by 7.
Seguidor
On1 from the matching open connection, the follower breaks back on right on 1, replaces on left on 2, and closes on 3 while allowing the connected arm to travel only within a comfortable shoulder range. On 5 the follower breaks back on left, replaces on right on 6, and closes on 7 facing the leader in the new handhold. No follower turn is required; any reorientation is limited to small torso adjustment and returns to square facing by 7.

Ten cuidado
Errores comunes
- Pulling the follower's arm behind her back rather than moving the leader's own connected hand path behind his back.
- Lifting the hand change above the leader's shoulder, which twists the follower's wrist and obscures the transfer.
- Adding an unintended follower turn; the base figure is a hand change with no follower rotation.
- Breaking twice within the same measure instead of breaking once on 1 and once on 5.
- Letting the hand transfer drift away from the slot so the couple loses facing distance.

- Cross-body lead: a travelling slot exchange with about 180 degrees of positional change, not merely a hand transfer.
- Hammerlock: a wrap position around the follower's arm or back, not the leader's behind-the-back hand change.
