Diamond Hand se entiende mejor como un shine de salsa que como una figura canónica de pareja con desplazamiento: las atestaciones disponibles lo identifican con Diamond Step o Diamond Basic, un patrón compacto de footwork que dibuja un diamante en el piso mediante colocaciones cruzadas, laterales y hacia atrás.[1] En el trabajo abierto de pareja puede bailarse como estilización en espejo sin cambiar de lugar; el líder comienza desde el marco On1 propio del líder con el pie izquierdo, mientras que la seguidora refleja desde el marco propio de la seguidora con el pie derecho, de modo que la pareja usa pies opuestos mientras preserva la misma idea direccional del cuerpo.[2] La versión común de ocho tiempos abre o cruza en 1, marca o recoge en 2, pisa hacia adelante o en diagonal en 3, y luego regresa a través del segundo compás en 5-6-7, con cualquier rotación corporal dividida en etapas orientadas hacia las esquinas en lugar de un solo latigazo.[3] Las fuentes didácticas ubican el patrón en clases de salsa de nivel principiante a intermedio y lo muestran en demostraciones On1 y On2, aunque esta ficha codifica únicamente el conteo On1.[4] Su denominación no aparece fuertemente regionalizada en las fuentes; los nombres documentados en clases en inglés son Diamond Hand, Diamond Step y Diamond Basic, mientras que las principales escenas de salsa a menudo usan el término en inglés u omiten la figura de la nomenclatura central de giros de pareja.[1]

On1 open-hold or shine setting: leader steps from the leader's own left on 1 into the first corner of the diamond, collects or lightly marks on 2, and steps forward or diagonally on 3 without pulling the follower through a slot. On 5-6-7 the leader returns through the opposite side of the diamond and closes the shape, using only staged body reorientation: about one corner change in the first measure, then the matching corner change in the second measure if the variation faces new diagonals.

On1 mirrored open-hold or shine setting: follower starts from the follower's own right on 1, mirroring the leader's diamond pathway rather than travelling forward through a slot. On 2 the follower marks or collects, on 3 steps forward or diagonally into the next corner, and on 5-6-7 returns through the opposite side to complete the same shape. Any turn is divided into corner-facing stages across the two measures, not saved for a single late spin.

- Treating Diamond Hand as a cross-body lead and sending the follower down the slot, although the base figure is stationary footwork.
- Starting both partners on the same foot in open mirrored work instead of using opposite feet.
- Breaking twice inside one measure instead of keeping one break in each measure of the eight-count phrase.
- Using large steps that erase the diamond shape and disturb partner spacing.
- Adding a full spin as a single terminal action instead of dividing any reorientation into small corner-facing stages.
