En la bachata, Derecho nombra tanto un ritmo musical central como el tratamiento contenido del baile social que suele corresponderle: movimiento compacto, parejo y conectado, a menudo en posición cerrada o abierta cercana durante las estrofas y otros pasajes melódicos tranquilos.[1] El líder y el seguidor/a bailan un trabajo de pies espejado, no con pies idénticos: el líder comúnmente comienza hacia el lado izquierdo en el conteo 1, mientras el seguidor/a comienza hacia el lado derecho, y cada uno completa una frase de tres pasos y un tap antes de invertir la dirección en la segunda mitad del conteo de ocho. La rotación normalmente es mínima, sin intercambio de carril; cualquier cambio de orientación es un pequeño ajuste compartido, a menudo menor que un cuarto de vuelta a lo largo de la frase, y luego se restablece en la frase siguiente. Musicalmente, Derecho se describe como el ritmo básico y dominante de la bachata, relacionado históricamente con la influencia del bolero y articulado por instrumentos como la güira y la guitarra rítmica a través de los tiempos principales y los contratiempos.[2] Debido a que es una sección musical y no un patrón de vuelta con nombre, la denominación regional es conservadora: las escenas dominicana e internacional de bachata generalmente conservan el término español Derecho al nombrar el ritmo, mientras que muchas clases en inglés describen la acción bailada como bachata básica o paso básico, en lugar de tratarla como una figura separada.[3]

In closed or close open position, the leader steps side-left on 1, closes or replaces on 2, steps side-left on 3, and taps the free right foot on 4; the second half mirrors back to the leader's right on 5-6-7 with a left-foot tap on 8. Frame remains quiet and elastic, with weight changes clear enough for the follower to mirror the direction.
Seguidor
The follower mirrors with the opposite foot: side-right on 1, close or replace on 2, side-right on 3, and tap the free left foot on 4; the second half returns to the follower's left on 5-6-7 with a right-foot tap on 8. The torso stays oriented to the partner unless a small shared adjustment is led.
Tiempo musicalBest suited to calm or moderate Derecho passages in bachata, especially verses and introductions. Comfortable social range is roughly 120-155 bpm; above about 160 bpm the same basic should become smaller and less ornamented.

Errores comunes
- Using the same foot as the partner instead of mirrored opposite-foot timing.
- Turning the figure into a traveling slot pattern; Derecho basic normally stays compact with no slot exchange.
- Adding large hip or torso accents that obscure the calm, even Derecho texture.
- Tapping without completing the preceding weight transfer on counts 3 and 7.
- Treating Derecho as a turn name rather than as a rhythm and basic-dance treatment.
