En la bachata, "volteo" está mejor documentado como una etiqueta genérica para una vuelta que como el nombre de una figura única y estandarizada; las referencias didácticas disponibles tratan las vueltas como material común de la bachata, aunque señalan que "volteo" no está fijado como el nombre de un paso específico de la manera en que sí lo están algunas figuras catalogadas.[1] Como figura canónica de glosario, puede describirse como una vuelta simple por debajo del brazo, construida sobre la unidad de cuatro tiempos de la bachata: tres cambios de peso seguidos de un toque o roce, fraseados habitualmente como 1-2-3-toque y 5-6-7-toque.[2] En la forma básica en pareja, el líder mantiene el ritmo base, eleva la mano conectada sin levantar el hombro de la seguidora, y crea el espacio para que la seguidora realice una sola rotación hacia la derecha, en sentido horario. La seguidora mantiene los pasos compactos bajo el cuerpo, distribuye la rotación a lo largo del compás en vez de concentrarla de golpe al final, y retorna a la posición de frente en el toque o en el tiempo siguiente. Dado que en los vocabularios didácticos de la bachata circulan vueltas como la vuelta por fuera, la vuelta por dentro, la llave de brazo (hammerlock), el abrazo cruzado (cuddle), el cambio de lugar, la trenza (pretzel), las vueltas de 180 grados en posición cerrada y los giros de rebote, "volteo" debe entenderse como un término genérico o descriptivo local, salvo que una escena en particular defina un uso más restringido.[3]

Maintain bachata basic timing. On 1-2-3, mark the leader's side basic while raising the connected hand and giving a small clockwise pathway for the follower; keep the frame low enough to avoid pulling the shoulder. The follower's rotation is budgeted across the measure: roughly a quarter turn by 1, half turn by 2, three-quarter by 3, and a completed single clockwise turn by the tap on 4. On 5-6-7-tap, reestablish facing position and normal hand height.
Seguidor
Keep the bachata rhythm and step compactly under the body. On 1-2-3, follow the raised-hand lead into a right, clockwise turn, rotating in stages rather than throwing the body at the end: approximately one quarter by 1, one half by 2, three quarters by 3, and one full turn by the tap on 4. On 5-6-7-tap, settle back into the facing basic with the leader.
Tiempo musicalFits moderate social bachata where a compact single turn can be completed cleanly over one four-count unit, roughly 120-150 bpm. At faster tempos, the turn should stay small and may be better led over a clearer preparatory measure.

- Leading the turn by pulling the arm instead of creating space and a raised-hand pathway.
- Compressing the whole rotation into count 3 or the tap instead of staging the turn through 1-2-3-tap.
- Letting the follower travel away from the partnership instead of keeping the turn compact.
- Dropping bachata's tap or touch while concentrating on the rotation.

- Outside turn: a more specific directional term, usually a follower right or clockwise turn away from the leader's center.
- Inside turn: a follower left or counter-clockwise turn; it should not be used for this right-turn base version.
- Vuelta: a broad Spanish word for turn that may overlap descriptively but is not proved here as a distinct regional name for this exact bachata card.
