Sopa es una figura de rueda de casino guiada por quien canta la rueda: pertenece al vocabulario compartido de llamadas que varias parejas ejecutan juntas en círculo, más que a un patrón fijo de salsa lineal en carril.[1] En una interpretación común en el social, la llamada se trata como una acción de la familia de enchufla desde guapea: el líder rompe hacia atrás con la izquierda mientras la seguidora rompe hacia atrás con la derecha, la conexión de manos unidas redirige a la seguidora mediante un intercambio con giro hacia la izquierda, y la pareja resuelve hacia la siguiente pareja o de regreso a la posición abierta de casino según el programa local de quien canta. La rotación debe entenderse por etapas: la entrada abre la pareja aproximadamente un cuarto de vuelta, el intercambio agrega otro cuarto a media vuelta mientras cambian las posiciones, y la salida vuelve a orientar hacia la nueva pareja en lugar de lanzar una única vuelta terminal. La rueda en sí se desarrolló a partir del casino cubano en La Habana y luego circuló por Miami y otras escenas de Estados Unidos, donde las llamadas con nombre podían ser estandarizadas por escuelas o variar localmente.[2] Debido a que las fuentes disponibles fundamentan el formato de rueda pero no documentan nombres alternativos para esta llamada específica, el nombre canónico se conserva como Sopa en lugar de ampliarse en traducciones literales.

On 5-6-7, clear the path, keep the follower’s left-turning travel continuous, and either collect the next follower or re-form open casino position as the local rueda sequence requires.
Seguidor
From guapea, break back on right on 1, respond forward through the connection on 2-3 without stepping across the circle early, and allow the left-turning exchange to develop in stages. On 5-6-7, continue the travel to the offered position and re-face the leader or next leader with weight settled for the next call.

- Treating the follower’s first count as a forward break instead of a back break from her own perspective.
- Trying to complete the whole rotation at once rather than opening, exchanging, and re-facing in separate stages.
- Pulling the follower through the arms instead of redirecting with a light frame and clear body opening.
- Finishing short of the next partner, which disrupts the circle and delays the following call.
- Calling it a slot-salsa move or line-of-dance pattern rather than a rueda call.
