Le cha-cha chasse est une action à trois temps côté-fermé-côté ou déplacement fermé qui fournit le rythme triple caractéristique du cha-cha, le plus souvent compté 4-&-1 après un rock contrôlé sur 2-3.[1] Dans un basic fermé, le leader peut effectuer un contrôle vers l'avant sur le pied gauche au temps 2, se replacer sur le droit au temps 3, puis prendre une chasse côté gauche gauche-droite-gauche sur 4-&-1 ; le suiveur reflète avec un contrôle arrière sur le pied droit, un remplacement à gauche, et une chasse côté droit droite-gauche-droite.[2] Au temps suivant, les rôles inversent la direction du contrôle et de la chasse, en conservant les pieds opposés et un centre partagé compact plutôt qu'une large fente de déplacement.[1] Les lignées compétitives et de studio distinguent plusieurs familles de chasse, incluant les variantes côté, compact et de type verrou, de sorte que le terme désigne à la fois une catégorie d'action et un composant de figure de base.[3] Le matériel de style international conserve généralement l'orthographe d'origine française « chassé », tandis que les listes de studio américaines écrivent habituellement la même action sous le nom « chasse » et la classent parmi les éléments standards du cha-cha.[2]

ComptageCha-cha timing: 2-3, 4-&-1. One checked break occurs per measure on count 2; the chasse occupies 4-&-1. A two-measure basic therefore has two checked breaks total, first on 2 and again on the next 2.

Closed or open facing position: on 2 check through the left foot, on 3 replace to the right, then chasse left-right-left on 4-&-1 with a compact side-close-side action. On the next measure check back through the right foot on 2, replace to the left on 3, then chasse right-left-right on 4-&-1. Rotation is normally neutral: any body turn is small, staged through the checked step and the chasse, and does not create a slot exchange.

On the next measure check forward through the left foot on 2, replace to the right on 3, then chasse left-right-left on 4-&-1. The follower mirrors the leader on opposite feet and keeps the triple action under the body rather than travelling past the leader.
Temps musicalBest at moderate cha-cha social and ballroom tempos where the 4-&-1 triple can stay compact and clearly weighted; very fast music tends to flatten the close step and blur the checked action.

Attention
Erreurs courantes
- Breaking twice inside one measure instead of checking once on 2 and using 4-&-1 for the chasse.
- Letting the feet pass loosely rather than closing or nearly closing on the middle step of the chasse.
- Travelling too far sideways, which pulls the partnership off its compact shared center.
- Dancing the follower's count-2 action as a forward break when the leader is checking forward; in the basic, the follower mirrors with a back check on the right foot.
- Treating the chasse as a turn: the base action has no required half-turn or slot exchange.

- Salsa cross-body lead: a travelling slot exchange, not the cha-cha chasse.
- Ballroom line of dance: not applicable to a stationary cha-cha basic action.
