Tarcisio and Jada attended the Latin American Awards Australia 2026, where Rio Rhythmics was honoured to be named a finalist for the Cultural Ambassador Award. This recognition celebrates more than dance; it reflects over 30 years of sharing the richness of Latin American culture through music, movement, connection, and community here in Australia. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of the Rio Rhythmics journey. This recognition belongs to our entire community. 💜 Rio Rhythmics Latin Dance Academy | Brisbane, Australia
Many people think they need confidence before they start dancing, join a class or go social dancing. But after decades of teaching Latin dance in Brisbane, I have seen the opposite. Confidence is often built through participation, connection and community. In this video, I reflect on how Latin dance, partner dancing and social dancing help beginners, children, adults and older dancers develop confidence through real human connection. At Rio Rhythmics Latin Dance Academy in West End, Brisbane, we believe dance is more than steps. It is communication, culture, belonging and a way to celebrate life.
What students need today goes beyond the classroom. In a world where young people are constantly connected, many are still missing something essential, real human connection. In this video, I share what I have learned over many years working with students through authentic Latin dance, Brazilian percussion and Capoeira. This is not about teaching steps. It is about helping young people develop confidence, communication, cooperation and awareness, often before a single word is spoken. Through movement and culture, students learn to listen, respond, and connect in ways that stay with them beyond the workshop, into the classroom, the playground, and their daily lives. Sometimes, what seems like a simple activity becomes something much deeper. Sometimes, it opens a door. If this is something that speaks to your school, organisation or community, I’d be very happy to continue the conversation.
Latin dance can offer children so much more than steps. In this video, I share why Latin dance helps kids build confidence, coordination, communication, rhythm and a real human connection, and why partner dancing can be such a powerful part of their development. At Rio Rhythmics, we believe children deserve more than just an activity. They deserve culture, warmth, community and a place where they can grow through movement and music.
Today is International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women throughout history, across the globe, in every sector of life, and in our world of dance. This day is also a call to responsibility. We must raise awareness about gender inequality, challenge discrimination, and speak up against behaviour that disempowers or intimidates women. Studio owners, especially, have a duty to create safe, respectful spaces. International Women’s Day is not only about flowers and compliments. Equality is not a “nice idea”; it is a daily practice. International Women’s Day is a reminder that a more just and inclusive world is not somebody else’s job. It is ours. At Rio Rhythmics, I feel deep gratitude for the women who help build our community with skill, leadership, warmth, and strength, and for the women in my own life who shaped who I am. Happy International Women’s Day
This is a reflection on loneliness in the crowd, and how we can bring humanity back. I share a moment from the street that reminded me how often we move through life without seeing each other. Workplaces, communities, and even some dance environments can become isolating when performance and perfectionism replace connection, and over time, this can quietly affect our wellbeing. Latin social partner dancing is cultural, human, and relational. It teaches presence, respect, and communication without words. At Rio Rhythmics in Brisbane, we aim to create a space where people belong, regardless of age, background, or experience, a place to reconnect with yourself and with others. I would love to hear from you. Where do you find real connection in modern life?
On the 25th of January, it will be 37 years since I arrived in Australia. In this video, I share a quiet reflection on how one decision, made out of necessity rather than certainty, changed my life, and eventually shaped the path of Rio Rhythmics. This is not a story about success or achievement. It is a story about migration, creativity, culture, and how dance became a way for people to feel more connected, more comfortable in their bodies, and more human. Dance, for me, has never been just about steps or performance. It has always been about connection, listening, and what I like to call a “musical hug”. This video is a spoken reflection inspired by our January Rio Rhythmics newsletter. Some people prefer reading. Others prefer listening. This is for those who like to listen. Thank you for being part of this community. Tarcisio Founder, Rio Rhythmics Latin Dance Academy
A New Year Reflection! As the year comes to an end, we often ask, What really mattered? For us at Rio Rhythmics, the answer is clear: joy, community, and human connection. Dance brings us back into the body. It reduces stress, builds confidence, and reminds us that we are not meant to do life alone. When people move together, something powerful happens. Barriers drop. Smiles appear. We connect first as humans. This year was a beautiful one because people showed up. Beginners, couples, seniors, teenagers. And our team showed up too, with heart, passion, and care. Why celebrate life dancing? Because movement keeps us young, connection keeps us alive, and joy is essential. If you’re looking for a New Year’s resolution that feeds your body, mind, and soul, dance is a beautiful place to start. From all of us at Rio Rhythmics, Happy New Year. We can’t wait to dance into the next one with you. Visit us: https://riorhythmicsacademy.com/
Merry Christmas Message from our Founding Director, Tarcisio! Hello everyone, it’s Tarcisio. As we reach Christmas, I just want to say thank you. This year was full of movement, full of learning, and full of those small moments of joy we create together on the dance floor. You brought energy, courage, and connection into the studio, and it has been a privilege to teach you and share this community with you. To every beginner who took their first step, to every long-time student who keeps growing, and to everyone who simply shows up with an open heart, thank you. You are the reason Rio Rhythmics feels like family. I’m excited for next year. More dancing, more confidence, more culture, more of that beautiful spirit that makes our community so special. From the Rio Rhythmics team, and my family to yours, Merry Christmas. Enjoy your holidays, rest well, and I look forward to seeing you on the dance floor.
