A espera é uma breve suspensão sustentada na kizomba, e não uma figura de deslocamento: o casal mantém a estrutura fechada, reduz ou interrompe o deslocamento dos pés e sustenta o peso compartilhado e a conexão do torso através do acento musical.[1] Na forma comum, o líder assenta a perna de apoio e aquieta o impulso do torso; a seguidora espelha a colocação do peso, mantendo o tônus sem antecipar o próximo passo.[2] A figura se ajusta à prática de abraço próximo da kizomba, na qual a condução é comumente transmitida pelo torso e pelo braço direito do líder, e na qual a sincronização suave com a música é um objetivo central.[3] Ela normalmente é contada dentro de uma frase lento-rápido-rápido ou mesmo de quatro tempos como um tempo sustentado, uma transferência atrasada ou um toque recolhido, depois liberado de volta para caminhada, saída ou outro percurso básico. O termo é português, em consonância com o contexto angolano e lusófono da kizomba; a dança se desenvolveu a partir da semba angolana em contato com o zouk antilhano e depois se espalhou por países africanos de língua portuguesa, Portugal, a Europa mais ampla e cenas internacionais.[4] Em contextos de Urban Kiz, pausas relacionadas são frequentemente mais marcadas ou mais lineares, mas a espera de base permanece uma parada musical governada pelo equilíbrio, não uma pose destacada do parceiro.

Condutor
On the chosen beat, the leader completes the current transfer, collects the free foot, and quiets the torso impulse without collapsing the embrace. Across the held beat, the leader keeps breath, axis, and right-arm tone stable, then restarts by sending a clear torso impulse into the next step.
Seguidor
On the same beat, the follower completes the mirrored transfer on the opposite foot, collects or lightly touches the free foot, and waits through the torso connection. Across the held beat, the follower keeps balance available rather than stepping early, then resumes only when the next impulse arrives.
Tempo da músicaBest at moderate kizomba tempos where the beat has enough space for a balanced suspension; it can mark a break, vocal accent, bass stop, or phrase ending. At faster Urban Kiz tempos, the same idea is usually shortened into a crisp held beat rather than a long stop.

Erros comuns
- Stopping the feet while letting the torso continue to pull the follower into an unintended step.
- Turning the pause into a dip, pose, or freeze that breaks shared balance.
- Follower guessing the restart instead of waiting for a renewed torso impulse.
- Leader holding too long for the phrase, causing the pause to lose its musical placement.
- Dropping frame tone during the hold, making the restart abrupt.
